Robotic Welding Ninety percent of all robots in use today are industrial robots used in manufacturing processes. The most common variety is the jointed arm robot, which is particularly useful for welding processes. Click Here for Robotic Welding! In arc welding, intense heat is applied to metal at the joint between two parts. The metal melts and mixes, often with a molten filler metal, then cools and solidifies. The resulting weld has the same strength as the metal of the parts, as opposed to other techniques such as soldering, which is not a fusion process. The intense heat needed for arc welding is produced by an electrical arc between the material and an electrode, which often also delivers the filler metal. Electronic beam welding, as the name implies, creates the heat necessary to fuse metals by directing a beam of high energy electrons at the joint. The electrons are accelerated to between 30 and 70 percent of the speed of light. They then convert the energy to heat, which creates the weld. The electron beam is generated in a vacuum, which reduces impurities and generates welds with a high depth-to-width ratio. Whatever type of welding robots you need, we can design them for you at CMI.
