Laser Welding Systems

The two types of laser welding systems commonly used for industrial purposes are gas and solid state. Gas laser welding systems, often referred to as carbon dioxide units, use a mixture of CO2, helium and nitrogen. They can handle both metallic and non-metallic materials. However, they are not suitable for fiber optics. Solid state laser welding systems use a solid bar of YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) doped with neodymium. They can be used on all metals, including reflective metals, but cannot handle non-metallic materials. They can be used for fiber optic applications, and are generally considered to be more precise but slower than gas units. All laser welding systems have greater speed and precision than other methods.
