Transmission Valve Body Robotic Deburring Cell

Poorly planned processes can cause huge expenses for a manufacturer. Poor ergonomics can cause all kinds of labor and liability issues. Fortunately, with the help of Custom Machines Inc. and some new innovative technology there is a solution.

Our customer needed a solution for removing flashing from their transmission valve castings. They had been using 20 employees working in 2 hour shifts (2 hours work, 2 hours break) to file the flashing by hand. The ergonomic health issues were enormous. CMI developed a solution by integrating a material handling robot and a DVT vision system with their existing trim press. The DVT cameras determine how much flashing must be removed and develop an offset factor used to modify the the deburring program resulting in an intelligent deburring machine! Robotic Battery Stacking

Sometimes staffing a plant completely can be a huge challenge, especially in a good economic environment. Openings are difficult to fill, turnovers wreak havoc on scheduling, and keeping good employees becomes more of a challenge. These were the conditions at one of our customers. But now, that’s all in the past, at least in one area of the plant, thanks to a series of 19 robotic material handling cells provided by Custom Machines, Incorporated.

These hard workers don't call in sick, take any vacation days, and will never use their experience to seek another job. These systems have kept up with well over 99% uptime, and have helped to keep production on an even schedule and reduced overtime costs. In fact, these cells have reduced costs so much that they achieved their payoff mark in two years. Just as important, they did not have to lay off any employees. All of the employees they previously had doing this work were retrained for new positions. They were used more efficiently in other operations in the plant, making the workers feel better about the jobs they were doing.

Steel Tube Laser Cutter

Looking for a solution for complex, precision cutting on a cylindrical part? Dies Not Cutting It? Try a Laser! Dies can warp the parts and require huge, loud presses that take up a lot of floor space and can become maintenance nightmares.

This was the problem for one manufacturer until they turned to Custom Machines Incorporated to provide the solution. CMI designed, built and installed a custom laser cutting turnkey system that delivers a higher quality part in less time and improves working conditions.

This system utilizes a rotary servo and a CO2 laser mounted on a linear servomotor to perform precision cuts in steel tubing. A magazine loader feeds the parts to the fixture. After cutting, the tube interior is automatically cleaned to remove debris. Then, the fixture ejects the parts out the back of the system to a finished parts bin.

Bearing Laser Welder

Lasers delivers stronger welds, and deeper penetration.

Some applications require a strong weld to ensure the part survives it's intense usage. But, extreme temperatures from some welding processes can warp the parts and require long processing times. Fortunately, Custom Machines Incorporated has your solution.

CMI recently finished the installation of a U-joint Laser Welder. This compact, simple to use system incorporates an intense laser beam to produce strong welds with minimal distortion at high processing speeds. With penetration depths of up to 10 mm (.39 in.) this cell was designed to work deep into the part to ensure the strongest weld.
