Cutting Laser We have Albert Einstein to thank for the idea that led to the invention of the laser. In 1916, he developed a new theory of radiation that set the stage for the much later development of Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A carbon dioxide laser is most often used, though highly efficient semiconductor lasers are gaining on them. The main advantage of laser cutting is precision. There is no cutting edge to wear, and lasers are less likely to warp the material being cut because the heat is confined to such a narrow space.
